To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die

My target 78 kms

Walking for my husband peter. wonderful husband and best father to our 6 children. he was our world. loved, respected and deeply missed.

This September, I'm walking 78km for the 78 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week. Pancreatic cancer is one of the toughest common cancer, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating. Right now, 12 Australians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every day. It is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia. But research can change this. Your support will fund groundbreaking pancreatic cancer research and improve survival rates. So this September, I'm challenging myself to get up, get moving and walk 78km to fight this terrible disease. Please make a donation to support me, and together... We will remember them. We will honour them. We will fight for them.

Talking to my son denver l showed him north end and said guess where l am he guessed straight away north end l turned around and a big rainbow was there l said hello handsome and told denver dads saying hello. He gives me a sign most days and he loved me walking lm si lucky to feel him all around me.

Signs & no signs

Sunday 6th Sep
Yesterday l had no signs from pete and felt a little low, l know l cant get them everyday truth is l think l was looking to hard for one. Today was a different story so day 5 of walking l was on my way down to the water and a group of little birds were following me chirping flying in out and around me making a racket getting my attention, then they flew above me l looked up and there was 2 figures, they looked like a man and lady with a line inbetween them as if they were hanging on hands. Right height difference between pete and l too. It was a plane letting off its load but to be in those shapes and the birds getting my attention to look up l knew it was pete working his magic. Next sign was a beautiful birdsong l could hear at brogans early one morning when l first arrived it was different to other birds l kept asking did yous hear that birdsong lm hearing. On my walk l looked ahead and there was this bird sitting at the top of the bare tree as l got closer it starting singing the same beautiful birdsong l heard the night l arrived at brogans. l knew it was another sign. Then at the end of my walk a group of around 200 students were doing a photo shoot for a calender down the water, they were so happy excited the atmosphere was electric, you could feel there energy it made me tear up l felt happy seeing them so happy and young the beginnings of there life, then the song Forever Young came on as l was walking past it was way too much for me,l asked him to stop trying so hard giving me signs thanked him but had enough for one day. Walking today l noticed a man standing up fishing in his boat in shore in front of the sunrise, it looked beautiful and peaceful l was drawn to looking at him, thinking peter would love to be that man out there fishing.

First few days of walking

Wednesday 2nd Sep
First few days of walking with Remember September. Started in Morton Bay up here to welcome my daughter brogans baby Kaleb into the world and help with their boys. A beautiful walk along the bay before the day begins is not a bad way to embrace and honour your loved one. First day took me by surprise everyone noticing your Purple Tee shirt and reading it. A lot of smiles, knods and for me filled eyes and choked up throat as l wasn't prepared. Today l handled it better. Both days l asked for a sign from pete, as l always do. First day as l was leaving from my walk along the water and l saw a man jogging, he looked like pete, ran like pete, wore the same clothes as pete l was about 30 metres away from him and said hello love! there you are. Second day l asked for my sign and was thinking lm getting to the end of the path, come on pete l thought. l was noticing a lot of couples (well 5 of them) were on there morning strolls, hand in hand and thought aww look there on a nice little holiday together, this was the first couple and then l said heres anothers coming and then 3 more after that. Thats when l thanked him for my sign. Pete and l always hung on hands walking especially on holidays. We both loved to, l must admit l always grabbed his first but he always let me. His hands were huge and kind of bent, when we hung on hands there was always about a half cup of air between our hands in the middle. This is what l thought of. Im really enjoying walking. He always told me to go foe a walk.

Getting ready

Wednesday 5th Aug
Well as my friends know l dont go to the gym or even enjoy excercise unless its natural excercise, its got to serve a purpose besides vanity. l could do housework all day,mow lawns, garden, clean pools, walk up 12 stairs 20 times a day, fence, dig, spread pea gravel, hammer all day long but forced excercise is not for me. ln saying that l couldnt think of a better way to exercise then this challenge and help pankind along the way. My faith beleives petes always around me so theres no doubt he will be walking with me. l feel lm going to be sore so lets hope he will help me with that. Walking 78km is like walking from Gerringong to Ulladulla or Moss Vale. My plan is to walk to Gerroa everyday for 30 days in september with my purple T Shirt on. So if you see me give me a big honk and l will know that you remember our pete too.
