Support my challenge to prevent pancreatic cancer
My otherwise healthy father, mowing the lawn in April, diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer in May, was dead in June . He lived barely a month from diagnosis and suffering immense pain .
PANCARE supports sufferers ,families, and research into this insidious fatal cancer.
I'm pledging 156 km of walking and running for Dad s memory , and the 78 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week. 156 is double the number (78) of Australians who die every week from pancreatic cancer.
This cancer is one of the toughest common cancers. It's symptoms masquerade as other, less worrisome conditions - you think its indigestion, or passing phase of fatigue. Your appetite and energy dimish. Maybe you are jaundiced, maybe not. There's discomfort in yr abdomen or back, but not much else.. and that first blood test shows nothing to worry about. Nor does the first CT scan.. . Indigestion - That's what the doctor told Dad. Prescribed him some digestive aids.
Now we know. Pancreatic cancer rarely causes detectable or measurable symptoms till too late , and the survival rates are very, very low.
12 Australians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every day.
* It is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia*
Research can change this and your support will fund pancreatic cancer research to improve survival rates.
I'm going to walk or run 156km in September 2026 to fight this underfunded disease.
Please make a donation to support this research and support work 🫶
I love you Dad.
