Support my challenge to fight pancreatic cancer

My September Challenge 💜

This September, I’m taking part in a challenge to support pancreatic cancer research, and this one is very close to my heart.

A very close friend of mine has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Like so many people who receive this devastating diagnosis, there is so much uncertainty and heartbreak for them, their family and their friends. It has made me realise even more just how important research is in finding better ways to detect, treat and ultimately beat this terrible disease.

So, this September, I’m joining my daughter in the challenge. She’ll be walking 78km throughout the month, representing the 78 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer every week.

Unfortunately, having just had a hip replacement, walking 78km isn’t quite the challenge for me that I need right now! 😄 So instead, I’ve chosen to Give Up a Vice — and for the whole month of September, I’ll be giving up chocolate. 🍫

It might not sound like much, but anyone who knows me knows that giving up chocolate for a month is definitely a challenge!

Pancreatic cancer is one of the toughest common cancers. 12 Australians are diagnosed every day, and it is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia. Early-stage pancreatic cancer often has few or no symptoms, meaning it is frequently diagnosed when treatment options are limited.

That’s why supporting research is so important. We need better ways to detect pancreatic cancer earlier, better treatments and better outcomes for the people and families facing this devastating disease.

I’m doing this challenge for my friend, for everyone who has been affected by pancreatic cancer, and in the hope that one day a diagnosis like this won’t carry the same devastating prognosis.
