Support my challenge to end pancreatic cancer
This September, I’m walking 78km. One kilometre for each of the 78 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer every week.
Until recently, that statistic was just a number to me.
We lost my grandpa to pancreatic cancer at 64. A week ago, my mum was diagnosed with it too. She’s 65.
Sitting in those appointments has taught me things I wish I didn’t know. That early pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, so by the time most people are diagnosed, their options have already narrowed. That even the specialists can’t always agree on the best path, because the tools to guide that decision don’t exist yet. That 12 Australians hear this news every single day, and that it’s now the third biggest cancer killer in the country.
The research that would change this is happening right now. Better ways to find it early. Better ways to work out who needs which treatment first, before precious weeks are lost. That work needs funding.
So this September I’m getting up, getting moving, and walking 78km. Every kilometre is for a loved one, someone’s grandpa, grandma, someone’s mum, dad
If you can donate, please do. It goes directly to pancreatic cancer research, and to a future where families get better answers than the ones we’ve been given.
