Support my challenge to end pancreatic cancer
This September, I’m walking 78km - one kilometre for every Australian who loses their life to pancreatic cancer each week.
But for me, this walk is so much more than 78km.
I’m walking it for Mum 💜
We lost Mum to pancreatic cancer in March, and there are no words that truly capture what it feels like to watch someone you love become so incredibly unwell, or the emptiness that is left behind when they’re gone.
Pancreatic cancer doesn’t just take lives. It takes mums, dads, partners, grandparents, siblings and friends. It takes precious time, memories and futures from the people left behind.
Every day, 12 Australians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia, and 78 Australians lose their lives to it every single week.
These aren’t just numbers to me anymore, as one of those numbers is my Mum.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the toughest common cancers. Because it often causes little or no symptoms in its early stages, it is frequently diagnosed too late, and survival rates remain devastatingly low.
But research can change this. Research means the hope of earlier diagnosis. Better treatments. Better survival rates. And, ultimately, more time with the people we love.
So this September, I’m walking 78km in Mum’s honour - to remember her, to honour her life, and to help fight this terrible disease so that, hopefully, other families don’t have to experience the same heartbreak.
Every kilometre will be for Mum.
Every step will be for the 78 Australians who die each week.
And every donation will help fund research that could save lives.
