Support my challenge to end pancreatic cancer
This September, I’m walking 78km for the 78 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer every week.
This cause is incredibly personal to me. My dad, Robert Hancock, passed away from pancreatic cancer last July, just 13 months after his diagnosis. He fought so incredibly hard, and I want to take on this challenge to remember him, honour him, and help raise awareness of this devastating disease.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the toughest common cancers, and because it often causes few symptoms in its early stages, it can be incredibly difficult to detect. Every day, 12 Australians are diagnosed, and it is now the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia.
For our family, Dad’s decision to see his GP when something didn’t seem right meant his cancer was caught earlier than it is for many people. While we ultimately lost him, that early diagnosis gave us precious extra time together — something I will always be grateful for.
That’s why I also want to encourage people to listen to their bodies. If something doesn’t feel right, please don’t ignore it. Make an appointment with your GP and get it checked.
Research can change the future of pancreatic cancer. Your donation will help fund vital research, improve early detection and, ultimately, give more families more time together.
So this September, I’m getting up, getting moving and walking 78km in Dad’s memory and for everyone affected by this terrible disease.
