Support my challenge to end pancreatic cancer

This September, I’m walking 78km for the 78 Australians who lose their lives to pancreatic cancer every week — and Peter Squires, my much‑loved brother‑in‑law and uncle to our daughter, who courageously fought this brutal disease until 21 January 2026.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the toughest common cancers. Because early‑stage pancreatic cancer rarely shows symptoms, too many families only discover it when it’s already advanced — and the survival rates are devastating.

Right now, 12 Australians are diagnosed every day. It is the third‑biggest cancer killer in our country.

But research can change this. Your support will help fund groundbreaking pancreatic cancer research, improve early detection, and give families hope where today there is far too little.

So this September, I’m challenging myself to get up, get moving and walk 78km — in honour of Peter’s kindness, his humour, his gentle strength, and the love he gave so freely to all of us.  It's also one way I can pay my respect and support to Peter's family - his wife/my sister Gail, his brother Neil and his family, and Peter's four wonderful step-daughters - Abbie, Charlotte, Rebecca, Sarah and their families - whose courage as they navigate the path ahead inspires me every day.

Please make a donation and together we will remember Peter and every family who has endured this heartbreak, and importantly, to enable the research and improve survival rates.

My Tribute Post

The person inspiring me to take on this challenge is Peter Squires, my sister - Gail's - husband, who fought the good fight over 12 weeks but sadly left us on 21 January 2026. For over 30 years he has been a much loved family member, with a great sense of humour and family. He put the smile back on my sister's face and was a much loved father to four beautiful stepdaughters. Peter was an elite sportsman in his time having 29 caps for England Rugby Union, a British & Irish Lions player in 1977 in rugby union, plus 49 caps for Yorkshire County Cricket, he remained incredibly humble about his achievements. Today would have been Peter's 75th birthday - this time last year, he and Gail were planning their trip out to join us in Australia for May/June this year - none of us had any idea then that just a few months later, he would no longer be with us. I am walking to remember Peter, and raise funds to make a difference for the future for those who are currently fighting this battle and to fund research to enable enable early screening and preventative measures - so that everyone has the opportunity for a better outcome. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Tao Te Ching Remember September is the start of that journey for me. xx
