For Shirley and Norma -A Future Without Pancreatic Cancer

💜 For Our Mums, Shirley & Norma – And for Every Family Affected by Pancreatic Cancer

This September, we are walking for PanKind in honour of our mums, Shirley and Norma, and to support everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer.

In 2017, Norma was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after months of ongoing pain that was initially thought to be digestive issues. By the time a CT scan revealed the cause, the cancer had spread and treatment was no longer possible. Cath returned to the UK to help care for her mum, who sadly passed away just six weeks later. Norma was not the first person lost to pancreatic cancer in Cath's family, with her grandmother and several family friends also taken by this devastating disease.

Last year, Shirley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at 74. Thanks to early detection, specialist care, extensive chemotherapy and a major Whipple procedure, she was fortunate to receive the all-clear in June 2026. We know how rare and precious that outcome is.

Together, we have experienced both the heartbreak of caring for a loved one with Pancreatic cancer and losing loved ones and the hope that comes from advances in research, treatment and early detection.

Every step we take this September is for Shirley and Norma, for those currently fighting pancreatic cancer, for the families who have lost someone they love, and for a future where more people have the chance to survive this disease.
