My target 75 kms
I'm walking 75km this September for the 75 Australians who lose their lives to pancreatic cancer each week — and I’m doing it in honour of my beautiful mum, Marion. 💜🌸
In 2015, our world changed forever when Mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We were told in a Sydney hospital that the tumour they had hoped to remove was inoperable — and the average survival rate was just 5 years. Before this, we knew so little about this disease. We had no idea how aggressive it could be. Sadly, we found out the hard way.
Mum fought with everything she had. She never showed us her pain — she wanted us kids to always see her strength. She was the strongest woman I’ve ever known, and she battled through it all with courage and grace. Just 11 months after her diagnosis, she took her last breath on 10th May 2016.
It still feels like yesterday. Next year will mark 10 years since we lost her, and not a day goes by that I don’t think of her. She was my best friend — the person I called every afternoon on my way home from work. I often wonder what she’d think of how much my life has changed. I hope she’d be proud of the woman I’m becoming. She’s still the one I look up to. The one I continue to learn from.
Pancreatic cancer is now the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia, and it’s one of the deadliest — with a 5-year survival rate of just 13%. Early detection is rare. Symptoms often don’t appear until it’s too late.
But research can change this.
So this September, I’m committing to walk 75km to raise vital funds for pancreatic cancer research — to help improve early detection, treatment, and survival rates for others.
Please support me if you can. Every donation makes a difference.
We will remember them.
We will honour them.
We will fight for them.
💜 For Mum. 🌸
