Doing it for mum!

On 10 September, I'm running/walking 63km for the 63 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week.  Earlier this year, my incredible and otherwise very healthy mum was sadly one of those 63.   

Pancreatic cancer is now the 3rd biggest cancer killer of Australians, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.

If you are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer tomorrow, there is only an 11.5% chance you'll be alive in 5 years.

But research can change this. Your support will fund life-saving pancreatic cancer research and improve survival rates.

Did it with a red back spider bite

Tuesday 27th Sep
As planned, I completed the 63km in one day.  After the 21st kilometre, a red back spider decided to bite my ankle in the middle of the bush whilst without phone reception. 

Long story short, I was admitted to hospital and discharged four hours later, lucky that it wasn’t a serious envenomation.  With the bite strapped and the sun only a few hours from setting, I amended the route of the walk to exit the bush on dusk, completing my last kilometres throughout sydney streets and arriving home fatigued just after 9pm. 

I’m going to run/walk 63km in one day

Rather than do the 63km in the month, I’ll do it in the day on Saturday September 10.
