Support my challenge to fight pancreatic cancer
This September, I'm walking 71km for the 71 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week.
My mum, Janny, was one of those 71 people who we lost in the first week of February this year. Upon diagnosis, after barely any symptoms, mum was given 3–9 months without chemo. She chose to undergo palliative chemo as she wanted nothing more than to spend more time with her grandchildren. It was a gruelling & heart breaking 15 month journey. We are so proud of our mum and the way she fought each & every day. Pancreatic cancer is a horrible, painful, aggressive beast & its prevalence continues to grow each year. Last year, statistics show that 63 people were dying each week- the fact this number continues to grow is unacceptable. We need early detection options to begin the fight against this horrific cancer.
Pancreatic cancer is now the 4th biggest cancer killer in Australia, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.
If you are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer tomorrow, there is only a 12.5% chance you'll be alive in 5 years.
If you are diagnosed stage 4- as 80% of people are- your survival rate at 5 years is around 1%
But research can change this. Your support will fund life-saving pancreatic cancer research and improve survival rates.
So this September, I'm challenging myself to get up, get moving and walk 71km to fight this terrible disease.
Please make a donation to support me, and together...
We will remember them. We will honour them. We will fight for them.
I wear purple to remember my mum Janny (1948-2024) and my friend Ronan (1973-2006) 💜💜💜
