Support my challenge to fight pancreatic cancer
This September, I'm walking 75km for the 75 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week.
Pancreatic cancer is now the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.
If you are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer tomorrow, there is only a 13% chance you'll be alive in 5 years.
Unfortunately, Dad was not part of this 13%. He survived 3 and a half years from diagnosis, and this was considered a "good" outcome. He never liked his cancer diagnosis referred to as a battle, but it was just that. He fought hard to be around for as long as possible, participating in multiple trials which showed promising results. However, all too commonly with a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, the cancer ultimately won.
My goal through this fund-raiser is to raise money to support ground-breaking pancreatric cancer research and improve survival rates for those unfortunate enough to be diagnosed with this hideous disease. I want people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer to be able to spend more time with their loved ones and for a loss like this to be a thing of the past.
So this September, I'm challenging myself to get moving and walk 75km to fight this terrible disease. Many of these 75km's, I will be walking with my son, Toby Gregory, Dad's fourth grandchild he sadly never got to meet.
