Support my challenge to end pancreatic cancer

This September, I'm walking 125km for the 75 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week.

Pancreatic cancer is the toughest common cancer, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.

Right now, 12 Australians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every day. It is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia.

But research can change this. Your support will fund groundbreaking pancreatic cancer research and improve survival rates.

So this September, I'm challenging myself to get up, get moving and walk 125km to fight this terrible disease.

Please make a donation to support me, and together...

We will remember them. We will honour them. We will fight for them.

My Dedication Wall for my dad, Paul Le Comte

My Tribute Post

I’m here doing this challenge for the second year as a proud daughter of an amazing survivor. My Dad Paul Le Comte is an example of a survivor who has rolled with the punches and keeps going and going. So I’m going to just keep going too. Last year I challenged myself to do 100km not sure I could do it but I just kept going and I conquered it so this year I’ve pushed my challenge to 125km. My Dad has been a survivor for more than 5years now and I’m so grateful. Last year and this year it’s been hard for me to read all the other tribute wall messages of loved ones speaking about those they have lost without feeling a sense of guilt and sadness. Our story can hopefully bring hope to those still fighting. I will share my Dad’s journey in more detail next year when I do this challenge again.

My Updates

Day 25 wow what a day with two walks today.

Friday 26th Sep
Spent the morning at Carousel going to shops and getting a haircut managed a 5.2km stroll around. Then decided to meet Melissa after she finished work at The Camfield to walk down at the Swan river at sunset it was a lovely night for it and I clocked up almost 6km making my total for the day 11km bringing my overall total up to 101km. only 24 to go Yay!

Day 24 found a new track to walk

Friday 26th Sep
It’s getting to the pointy end and I’m a little behind where I wanted to be at. Melissa finished work early and I slept early and set my alarm for 4pm. She came and picked me up and we went to the Canning river near Lo Quay River Cafe Riverton. Foubd a sign that said 4km round trip so off we went. What an adventure it felt like with great views of the river and lovely dogs to pat along the way. Some great looking drool worthy gardens and houses to admire and dream about. we practiced some more French and wore ourselves out a little pushing ourselves to do 7km but it was worth it and helped with the total goal I’m aiming for. Definitely one to go agsin after the challenge.

Day 22 more sister catch up time while walking.

Thursday 25th Sep
I tried getting some sleep in on Monday as I had a nightshift to do but it didn’t really happen. I rested and got some washing done even discovered a new show on Apple TV called Shrinking with Harrison Ford and Jason Segal as part of a great ensemble cast. Got fed up with myself and spoke with Melissa who had just finished work so we arranged to go for a walk near home, we logged 4.7km and had a great time chatting, laughing and practicing our French lessons. Oh and avoiding the swarms of midges.

Day 21 beach walking weekend cont..

Thursday 25th Sep
After my drive to Harvey and back a nap was in order after a very busy weekend already had me tired and teary. I pulled myself together an hour later than planned and went and picked up Mum so we could get on our way to meet up with Melissa, Ryder and Sue at The Surfing Lizard cafe at Coogee for our walk. As a group we walked quite a fair way but Mum and Ryder needed a break so we kept going a bit further. It was a bit hot because of the time we finally started and it’s finally heating up after a long cold wet winter. All up we logged 5.5km all up before heading to the cafe for some good food and a new experience of placing the order yourself on their tablets. It reminded me of learning to work at McDonald’s and Blockbuster then Spudshed back in the day. All up a great time was had.

Day 20 back to it at the beach.

Saturday 20th Sep
I’ve had a few days off as had an extra shift at work and extra tired from trying to do too much as well as working and sleeping etc. plus we’ve had a rain filled week until this weekend. Thank goodness for the sunshine this week as I have a few kms to catch up on. I managed to log 2.4km tonight at the beach with my friend Melissa while we watched the sunset. My total is currently at 73km so only 52km to go.

Day 16 was just meant to be a short walk

Tuesday 16th Sep
I had a busy morning weeding for a friend of my Mum and cane away a little sore. went and bought myself lunch and something’s for dinners headed home to eat and change and decided I needed a walk/stroll to stretch everything out before heading to sleep as I have nightshift tonight. So off for my walk I went. Paperbag in hand to collect cans and bottles while I go the total this time was around 6 I believe so 60cents for my savings. Then while on my travels I found an old turned wooden standard lamp out for collection that needs a fair bit of work and attention. It took me two trips and a conversation on the phone while I took it home and back out for the shade so all up my short walk became a 4.3km walk which is great for my total. I believe

Day 15 i’m back with 10.2km

Tuesday 16th Sep
I missed logging some kms for a number of days due to work, sleep, soreness and the rain but I’m back. The activity log says I did around 10km from the time at work after midnight till hometime I paused it, then after sleeping going for a walk with my sister Melissa after she finished work at the park while we learnt French for another goal we have I stopped it thinking I was done at 5.6km. it was cold so Mel left one lap early but boy we had fun practicing our Duolingo French lesson. But remembered I needed some things from the shops so off to Carousel and me aimlessly walking around trying to remember what we need at home in my overtired state. I’m not sure if it logs it correctly when in multi level parking but it says 4.6km and with all the walking at work on days I forgot to log it I’m taking it.

Day 11 rest day but housework day.

Friday 12th Sep
Early start to the day driving to Harvey for one of our jobs we share and got to see the sunrise. Shared the message with many friends and family that it was a dollar match day for my fundraising goal of $750 or more hoping it will help bump it up. Went to Bunnings to look at stuff for home then met up with Michael at his work for a meal break gotta get time together where we can. Home after cleaning the car to do housework and make some healthy veg soup. Feeling tired but on a roll skipped going for a walk to stay focused on tidying and doing washing etc before getting ready for a date night. On the way at a quick detour to get tissues and other items from a pharmacy I checked my total page and it brought a few tears to my eyes at the generosity of my loved ones as I was so close to my goal amount. Off to the movies and dinner afterwards in Freo where we ran into Michael’s cousin Daniel and his lovely partner Krista. We saw a great movie The Ballard of Wallis Island at Luna on Sx and a lovely fish dinner at The Cray then hot drinks and cheesecake at Gino’s meeting up with the cousins and their friends from out of town. Truly a great blessed day with productivity and fun a great balance.

Day 10 short walk turned longer

Thursday 11th Sep
Had a great sleep after work today but longer than I planned, woke up with a headache from being dehydrated but needed to get a walk in so got ready and headed out as it was starting to get dark. Just went local as I know it’s 4.5km on the regular route that I have gone on over many years living here. I decided I wanted company so rang some friends and family to see who was available for a chat while I was out.I did get to enjoy a lovely sunset view over the water at the park while I chatted to my Aunty Robyn (see photo) I was also letting them know it’s another double your donation day coming up so if they wanted to donate tomorrow (Thursday) would be ideal so I can get to my goal quicker. while out on my walk I remembered I left some food in the fridge at work so decided to keep walking and pick it up hence short walk turned longer. I even managed to find a few containers to cash in so my solo walk was very productive in a number of ways including staying in touch with loved ones.

Day 9 and then she rested

Wednesday 10th Sep
I was so pooped after an emotional big first week I really just needed to rest up after my nightshift and sleep. Michael and I did finish a project at home refreshing our tired old bathroom with some new towel rails and shower caddies. I was to tired to drill the holes and I like him helping me it’s a team effort in our place.

Day 8 beautiful but cold day sunset walk

Monday 8th Sep
After an early start this morning getting up to do the Harvey run for the 3rd morning in a row I got to see the sunrise and farmlands then home to sleep. I set the alarm and woke up early enough to go for a walk with my sister after she finished her work day. It was great and we got to see a sunset as well although it wasn’t spectacular it was stil nice and finally not raining even better we logged up over 4.5km so also great. I learnt about the hand warmers she has been using and we thankfully both wore scarves which we needed to help stop us from swallowing loads of swarming midges while we walk in the nature track. Thanks Mel for the company

Day 1 & 2 i did log these but…

Monday 8th Sep
They were lost when the technology challenges got the better of me and we had to fix a few things which I wrote about on Day 3. I’ll redo them tomorrow with photos as too tired now on the 7th day.

Day 7 fathers day 2025

Monday 8th Sep
Today we decided to go and explore Karrinyup Shopping Centre a huge multilevel shopping mall with loads of space to roam. My Sister Melissa suggested it as she hasn’t been yet and neither has Dad or my nephew. I was happy as I figured it was a great opportunity to get some steps in while indoors away from the on again off again rain we’ve had all weekend. We probably walked (Dad rolled in his wheelchair) about 7km or more but silly tired me forgot to hit start on my live activity log. Thank goodness I realised and managed to start it and we logged almost 6km of just window shopping while in awe of how many shops, restaurants or food places and the amount of people with the same idea. We still didn’t see it all so will have to go back another time.

Day 6 just a short walk around the park

Monday 8th Sep
Well actually it was a walk at the shops while shopping for Fathers Day presents and then a short walk at my local park because I forgot to hit pause on the live activity log and it recorded the drive home and there is no way to edit it so I deleted the approx 2km of walking I did along with the 3km drive home as it wasn’t fair. I then put all the shopping inside and fridge stuff away then off to the park to walk and talk with friends on my phone and collected bottles and cans for cash for containers stash. I did manage almost 3kms so I was happy with that. I would’ve kept going but it was getting dark and cold and starting to rain a little.

Day 5 another day for relaxing after nightshift

Friday 5th Sep
Well not much to say about today as I slept for most of it but managed to clock up over 2km of walking at work serving customers and sweeping and mopping the floor from midnight till around 7:30am this morning. it was quiet at work too so I will be interesting to see how many I would clock up on a busy night. I’m happy with my progress so far this week and year. Choosing to add more to my goal this year felt good but I also wondered/worried if I bit off more than I can chew. At this stage I think I can get this done and maybe even get extra but we will see. I have a lot of great people giving me great support along the way.

Day 4 rest day after night shift and a big week

Thursday 4th Sep
Today I’ve rested after working night shift I did clock up a 1.7km of walking at work through the night. I’m tired after a big week so I’m sleeping resting my body and feet as I have nightshift again tonight. I’ll get more kms in over the weekend though. I’m proud of what I’ve done so far just need to get some more donations coming in.

Day 3 a short but hot walk with mum

Wednesday 3rd Sep
After waking up early after some strange and vivid dreams I simply don’t remember now but they had me rattled at the time I started catching up on housework and got quite into it. I was going to go for a walk but then I started on something else that needed my attention. Before I knew it the day was getting away and I had a few phone calls one from my partner Michael saying I may need to drive out to near Waroona to help rescue him as car tyre issues were slowing him down and he might need a second car to help sort it so he can finish the work he was doing. Then another from my Mum saying the appointment that was booked for 11 has now changed to 10:15 at her house if that’s ok and I had said I’d be there as support for her through her My Aged Care assessment. Such a great government initiative keeping older people in their homes with their independence for as long as possible. Our Dad (who I’m doing my walk to honour) has been making use of these great services for a number of years now and it has helped him greatly as a wheelchair bound man. He has been through so much and is a true survivor. Back to Mum though we learned a lot about what is available for her current needs and some great suggestions for future use and community programs she might not have heard of or yet considered needing. After the lovely Chelsea finished with all the questions etc we decided to go for a walk near Mum’s place it was only going to be short but as we left around lunchtime in the heat of the day a short walk felt much longer and no photos were taken either. I also have had some technology issues with my apps and Facebook for this awesome fundraiser not all aligning with the same information. I reached out to my wonderful PanKind support for help and while on the walk we managed to sort a fair bit of it and will work on the last parts of my first two blogs missing ASAP hopefully.
