Support my challenge to end pancreatic cancer
This September, my family and I are walking 75kms in a weekend to honour our Mum, Lyn Newton. It will be a challenge but nothing compared to the challenge faced by Mum who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2011 and given as little as 4 weeks to live.
It’s 75 kms because 75 Australians die from pancreatic cancer every week. It’s one of the toughest common cancers, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.
Right now, 12 Australians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every day. It is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia.
We're walking an urban route in Brisbane taking in places important to Mum and Dad (who was also diagnosed with terminal cancer 3 weeks after Mum).
Our aim is to:
· raise awareness
· raise funds to support the fabulous researchers working hard on a cure
· remember our Mum and many others we know who have passed away from pancreatic cancer.
