I'm Moving It AND Giving It Up this September!
This September, I'm taking part in TWO Remember September challenges in memory of our friend and colleague Tino Scasserra. Tino was a senior lawyer in our team, who was only around my age when he passed away in September 2016. He was known for both his talent as a lawyer and his kindness and generosity - so much so that all wholesome conduct in the team was measured on the "Tino Scale of Niceness".
I'm Moving It by walking 68km in September for the 68 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week, and I'm also Giving It Up by giving up all drinks except pure water for the month.
Pancreatic cancer is now the 3rd biggest cancer killer of Australians, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.
Since we started supporting vital pancreatic cancer research in 2017, survival rates have more than doubled, but if you are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer tomorrow, there is still only an 12.2% chance you'll be alive in 5 years.
As a significantly underfunded area of research, the funding and coordination that Pankind provides your support has an oversized impact on these statistics. Our goal is to triple survival rates by 2030.
So this September, I'm giving up two of my favourite things, yummy drinks and my sedentary lifestyle.
