This September, [family, friends and I walked] 71km for the 71 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer each week. 🖤🖤🖤

Pancreatic cancer is now the 4th biggest cancer killer in Australia, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.

As a family, we were devastated when Dad was diagnosed in January 2024. He had two advanced tumours, inoperable and untreatable. 💔💔💔

Dad took it in stride. He was under the care of some pretty amazing specialists, nurses, doctors and palliative care team members at Greenslopes Hospital. 🙏🙏🙏

Plus we were given PanKind resources which gave us so much more info about this truly insidious disease that helped us understand more about dad’s condition, what to expect through his diagnosis and any treatments or support, and where to access services and info. 💜💜💜

Dad passed away on 23 May 2024, after only four short months and eight days. 💔💔💔

By putting more funding into life-saving pancreatic cancer research, PanKind is aiming to turn this around  and improve survival rates for people like my dad, Mike. 

So this September, I'm walk[ed] 71km just to feel like I [did] something. 🤷‍♀️

[People donated,  joined me for a walk, or a coffee catch up; or hopefully some even checked-in on their own health. ❤️

And if they knew my dad, Mike, I hope they remembered him fondly this month. 

I hope they talked about him, shared a story, or a joke, or something he shared with them. 

Thank you to the people that reached out and shared their stories with me. It meant a lot. 🙏🙏🙏 We still love talking about him even if we do still get teary. He was a pretty great and worth remembering though he’d be shaking his head at all this fuss! xxx]

I’d already made my kilometre goal, but I wanted to do one last solo walk tonight. A short one, along the waterfront. It was perfect. 💜💜💜 #diditfordad

While Amy and I were traipsing across Home Beach and Cylinder, jumping over waves and tidal creeks…. On the other side of the world my Uk-fam-bam, “girls only” were doing their own little walk around our third favourite place, Christow on Devon. They went jumping over stones, navigating laneways, exploring hills and dales and climbing over fences to add to our team tally. Thanks Chloe, Wren and Lark for walking with us. Today was pretty special! I completed my final walk for PanKind’s Remember September Move It Challenge, completing 71km in honor of my dad with the help of friends and family. With just 1 kilometer left, today I had the perfect walking buddy—my niece, Amy (Cristy and Dave’s kiddo)! We walked along the beach at Straddie (Minjerribah) a place that has a lot of history and means a lot to our family, and especially to dad. 💜💜💜 A huge thank you to everyone who donated, walked, called, and messaged. Because of you, we made it! We did it for dad! 💜💜💜🎉🎉🎉 Special thanks to Amy. The pants were right… it was a great day! 😉🤣🤪 Over and out. I’m off to spend a little quiet time walking by myself in the woods. xxx

Pretty excited to share that together we’ve hit our $2500 goal for PanKind’s Remember September! 🙏🙏🙏 Thanks to all of you amazing people, I got out of the house and walking with the sole purpose of raising some funds for pancreatic cancer, a truly nasty disease. 💜💜💜 I walked this month in memory of my dad, who was diagnosed in January and passed away in May of this year. I miss him every day. It sucks, and I know far too many families facing the same thing and they know I have also been walking each step for them. ❤️❤️❤️ Your support means the world, and together, I hope it leads to better outcomes for all patients. Thank you! I’m absolutely buzzing with gratitude! 🌻🐝🌻🐝🌻🐝 You’re all un-bee-lievably awesome! 🤩 🤩🤩💜💜💜

So tonight was a very slow, sleepy walk in windy, wet weather conditions. Only 1km added to the PanKind Remember September piggy bank. Only 1km to go. I have mixed feelings; I’m proud of what I’ve achieved considering some challenges I’ve had this month, but I’m also really sad my Move it Challenge is coming to an end. I have something special planned for my last kilometre plus I’m still about $142 away from my fundraising goal so I have some more work to do tomorrow. Fingers crossed the weather changes. Until tomorrow, thanks to everyone for following along, cheering me on, walking with me, the memes, the chats, the calls, the encouragement. I could not have done this without you all. Today I had an absolute blast joining my nephew for his first campus crawl! We toured the QUT Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove Campuses as part of their program for prospective students for 2025. Today’s pace was a slow dawdle as the dogs took us on a sniffari around the local park.
