My Mum is the driving force behind me, my Mum is my inspiration. My Mum, Joanne, sadly passed away in November 2021, not even six months after finding out she had pancreatic cancer. It all felt like a bad dream… to this day I hoped to wake up and it was all just that.. a bad dream. My mum meant the world to me, she was an amazing human with the biggest heart. I thought she was going to be around forever! I miss her every second of every day.. What I would do to hear her voice, hug her and tell how much I love her. This is my 5th year doing the Remember September Challenge and I will continue to do it every year in memory of my mum. Love you Mumma Bear! Xx 💜💛

we lost mum to Pancreatic cancer 14 months after diagnosis. Longer than most but too soon for us as a family. It was a privilege to nurse her to the end, and so blessed she had a gentle passing at home. love you mum.xx

This is my first year supporting Remember September. My mum passed away at the very young age of 46 years. She fought this horrid disease head on, with strength and determination. While mum was fighting this battle, she was also helping my brother, Ricky, Ricky was fighting his own cancer, eweing sarcoma. Ricky sadly passed away at the tender age of 26, 2 years after mum. Mum was such an inspiration.

I am walking in honour of my MumJenny. Our story starts 10 years ago, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had the works for treatment, but was then cancer free. But my oncologist kept insisting I have genetic testing. Finally I did, and they found I had a faulty gene, PALB2, which causes a higher risk of breast, ovarian and pancreatic cancer. Mum tested positive too, then a few months later, she suddenly became unwell. They found she had advanced pancreatic cancer and there was nothing they could do. Despite my best efforts to care for her, she slipped away before my eyes and was gone in 6 weeks. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones, as I know about this risk, had my ovaries removed, and I have regular screening tests for breast and pancreatic cancer. So I’m doing this to help fund research into earlier detection and better treatments to help others, or maybe even me in the future (hopefully not!)

We lost our beautiful Mum (Dee) in December 2024 Mum fought this horrible cancer for a total of 87 days from diagnosis to angel wings 🪽. She is sadly missed by her family and friends and will always be loved and remembered 💜💜💜

My dear Mum ‘Fayesy’ what a bloody legend! She was an amazing strong woman who touched so many people’s lives without realising it. Mum was simply the best … a fighter, an inspiration and my hero! Always loved & never forgotten. 🙌🏻💔🥺

My Nan, Dorothy, was one the most amazing, selfless and inspirational women I have known. Her world revolved around her family and she would move mountains for them. So when her first great-grandchild was born, she was besotted. Pancreatic cancer had other plans and entered her life when her great-grandchild was 6 months old. She pushed through, despite numerous challenges and the sickness that followed. Nan fed her, played with and got on the ground with her, age or sickness was not going to stop her. So we set goals - Nan saw the celebration of 60 years of wedded bliss and the next was the 1st birthday celebration. Nan was sick, knowing if she went to the doctor she would not make the celebration, so she battled on. Nan came to the 1st birthday party, very ill, jaundiced, weak and tired. But she was there. We took many photos that day. Upon returning home, she was hospitalised. On her final night, in and out of sleep, she called out for her great-grandchild for the last time. We placed her in Nan's bed, and she knew she was there. She didn't ask again, she passed peacefully in the morning,leaving a legacy of a woman who knew love meant everything.

My friend Rose was sunshine and salt. She was open water and wide horizons, narrow lanes and wide arms. She was walks on the beach, swims in the sea, chats in the changerooms and drinks at the pub. She was chlorine and bleach and coffee, coffee, coffee. She was have a go, give a hand, grab a lift, just do it. She was set jaw, top ten in the world, four of three, 5.3 seconds, Rottnest again and again and again. She was weekend getaways, market brunches and long lunches. She was opera and karaoke and (reluctantly) poetry. She was warm apple crumble and cold winter dips. She was dinner and dishes and out the back door. A quick nod and a sharp wave. She was fancy stuff and no fuss, long lashes and steel caps, passionfruit sponge and porridge. A sharpshooter and straight speaker. She was the centre of the frame and the life of the party. A leader and a legend. She is loved and missed.

In 2016, I lost my beautiful grandfather Les to pancreatic cancer. Being so young, I didn’t get the chance to spend as much time with him as I wish I had. This challenge is my way of keeping his memory alive, and honouring the cheeky, loving angel he’ll always be to me.

4 years ago my husband lost his 2 1/2 year battle with Pancreatic Cancer aged 68 years. Diagnosed at 66 years before he retired from work. We had so many plans for our retirement. Holidays we had planned all gone out the window. It was the biggest shock to me. My heart skipped a beat and has not yet fully recovered. There is not day passes when I do not think of him in some small way. The most wonderful man ,father and grandfather.

I learned about pancreatic cancer from my tutor who was a PhD candidate researching pancreatic cancer treatment. He told our class that it's a dangerous cancer - medications don't work due to the tricky location of the pancreas and there currently exists no reliable early detection method - people often find out when it's too late. I never forget that class and it inspires me to join movements in fighting this cancer. I hope that every effort can contribute to the bigger cause to advance research and save more lives from pancreatic cancer, and I wish every patient all the best - I hope you can keep moving forward with the hopes and courage you've been carrying - I'm proud of you.
