Pancreatic cancer is now the 3rd biggest cancer killer of Australians, and because early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms, the survival rates are devastating.
If you are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer tomorrow, there is only a 10% chance you'll be alive in 5 years.
On the 18th September (weather and covid permitting) I plan to walk 63km in 1 day to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research, along with the walk I have given up all liquids except water for the month of September - no coffee, soft drink, beer, juice, beer or beer, just plain water.
If you would like please donate or do some research on pancreatic cancer because it can quickly change your life and the lives on your loved ones.
When I got the call in early January 2019 from Mum telling me Dad had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer I must admit I didn't know much about it, it doesn't take much research to learn the devastating statistics behind Pancreatic Cancer.
The next few months Dad and our family endured some harrowing experiences as the cancer continued to progress. Dad passed away on 16th of May 2019.
I have always supported fundraising concepts like these but I rarely volunteer myself for them, I don't know why. I even contemplated whether or not to do this for a few weeks, I like the idea of the personal challenge and the opportunity to raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer in particular early detection.
I don't deal with death well, if you know me that much is pretty clear, I'd like to think over the next month I can learn to cope with that a little better and remember a great man.
